Treasurer – Aaron Altschul

Meet Aaron! Outside of his professional world as an orthodontist and his bustling home life with five daughters, he finds profound joy and connection in swing dancing, particularly Lindy Hop. Aaron’s dance journey commenced at Purdue University with competitive ballroom dancing, but it was a transformative night in Chicago in 1998 that truly captured his heart with the spirit of swing dance. Together with his wife Kathy, Aaron has been pivotal in nurturing the growth of Naptown Stomp, sharing their passion and expertise with every glide and step. What Aaron values most about the Naptown Stomp community is its unique ability to foster connections and friendships, all while spreading the infectious joy of Lindy Hop. As the treasurer, he plays a crucial role in ensuring the organization’s vibrancy and financial sustainability, making sure the rhythm of the community beats strong for both new faces and seasoned dancers alike!

Community Engagement – Alexander Bemis

Hello! My name is Alexander Bemis, and I’m the Community Engagement Coordinator for Naptown Stomp. I’ve been part of the swing dancing scene since August 2022, and in that relatively short time for me it’s been an incredible journey filled with music, travel, and meeting all kinds of fun people.

As the Community Engagement Coordinator, my focus is on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for dancers of all levels. I work to build community by hosting special events at McGowan Hall and trying to keep our current members engaged. For external event requests like performance dances or instructor lessons I am also the point of contact for the rest of the team.

Outside of dance I work as an Electrical Engineer and there are a surprising amount of engineers in this community. I host regular events at my home like game nights where people get together to play board games or sometimes we just enjoy a movie or bonfire together. If you see me at McGowan come and say hello and ask me to dance with you!

Secretary – Kayanna Turner

Kayanna was first introduced to Lindy Hop at Purdue University her last semester of college. There she discovered a sudden fascination for the improvisation and partner connection aspects of swing dance. After graduating, she began alternating between taking lessons at Naptown Stomp (IN) and Hot Jam (GA) as she traveled for work. In early 2023, Kayanna settled back in Indiana working as a public librarian and became a Naptown regular. She loves how welcoming the community is for all levels of dancers and wants to cultivate that friendliness on and off the dance floor. As secretary, Kayanna supports Naptown Stomp by managing yearly memberships, monthly newsletters, and organizational records.
